Detox Retreat Adelaide | Panchakarma Retreat
Panchakarma
Our Ultimate Detox Retreat is known as panchakarma in Ayurvedic medicine. Panchakarma comes from the Sanskrit words “pancha,” meaning five, and “karma,” meaning treatments and refers to the five different treatments/actions to remove toxins from the body. The five elements work together to cleanse the body of impurities and restore balance to the body’s three doshas (Vata, Pitta and Kapha).
Hatha yoga is deeply aligned with the fundamental principles of Ayurveda, which focuses on creating balance and harmony in one’s life. During the retreat, we run workshops to teach you how to support your yoga with Ayurveda and how Ayurvedic food can complement your yoga practice. You’ll also learn how you can use yoga to help balance the doshas and stimulate the marma (energy meridians) points to help you take your practice further.
Customised Ayurvedic Meal Plan
Our panchakarma retreats have a special Ayurvedic menu designed to nourish the body and help eliminate toxins.
Ayurvedic Treatments
Ayurveda recognises that we are not all the same. We are all unique and therefore need something different, so your treatment plan is customised to suit your requirements. Our Ayurvedic treatment programs consist of core daily detox treatments and a selection of customised treatments as prescribed by Ayurvedic Doctors.
Daily Therapeutic Care and Core Ayurvedic Treatments (included)
Yoga, Meditation & Breathwork
To start the day, our therapists will guide you through a gentle yoga class along with guided meditation and breathwork to help create a sense of peace and stillness.
Yoga, meditation and breathwork can profoundly affect the mind, body and wellbeing. They are powerful tools to help you manage stress / anxiety, build self-awareness and increase concentration and focus. Regular yoga, meditation and breathwork practices have been proven to help induce relaxation, reduce stress, heart rate and blood pressure, and can help decrease pain and inflammation.
Consultation With Ayurvedic Doctor
All our doctors and therapists are qualified, accredited practitioners offering authentic, classical Ayurveda treatments. During the consultation, the doctor will ask you a series of questions about your health and lifestyle and then examine your tongue and check your pulse to help determine your dosha (constitution) type. We are all made up of a mix of the three doshas (Pitta, Vata and Kapha), but one will often dominate, and this will determine the best treatment program and herbal formulations to suit your unique situation.
Please note that our retreat does not provide mental health counselling or therapy services. If you have been diagnosed with or are currently experiencing mental health conditions such as severe anxiety, depression, or other psychiatric concerns, we advise that you consult a healthcare professional to assess whether our retreat is suitable for your needs. Our programs are designed for general wellness and may not be appropriate for individuals requiring specific mental health support.
Ayurvedic Body Scrub
Following your massage, your therapist will formulate a special herbal scrub (paste) and rub it into the skin. The herbal paste helps to condition skin, increase circulation, cleanse impurities and detox the body.
Ayurvedic Steam Bath
An Ayurvedic steam bath is not like an ordinary bath; it is a specially designed seated steam chamber that circulates steam around the body below the head.
Steam opens the pores, allowing the herbal scrub to penetrate deep down through the skin into the blood and tissues for maximum detoxification. As the steam penetrates deep into the muscle and connective tissue, it can relieve muscle tension along with pain and stiffness in the joints.
Indian Head Massage
An Indian head massage is a great way to help relieve stress and tension in the head, neck and shoulders. It goes well beyond the physical and can deliver mental and emotional benefits that can lead to feelings of deep relaxation, profound clarity and oneness.
The treatment works by gently massaging the marma (acupressure) points along the head neck and shoulders with special oil to release energetic blockages and allow vital energy (prana) to flow. The gentle massaging movement increases blood flow to deliver more oxygen to the brain, boosts the lymphatic system (immunity), conditions the scalp and nourishes the hair follicles and roots, which can help strengthen the hair and help reduce hair breakage and loss.
Shirodhara
Shirodhara is a divine and relaxing therapy that helps to soothe and calm the mind to relieve stress, anxiety, headaches and improve sleep. It stimulates the pineal gland, third eye and higher consciousness. A steady stream of warm herbal oil is continually flowed across the forehead to trigger the body's relaxation response (parasympathetic nervous system), which calms the mind, relaxes the body and significantly reduces stress levels.
Enema
Enemas have been used for centuries and are regularly used to relieve constipation, flush out the contents of the colon and help detoxify the body from within. During the procedure, liquid is introduced into the rectum and colon through a tube in the anus. The liquid is held inside the body for a few minutes before being expelled. Enemas are a safe and effective way to help restore and promote digestive health and stimulate regular bowel movement.
Additional Customised Ayurvedic Treatments
Facial Marma Massage
Our facial marma massage is so much more than a facial. It is a gentle treatment that helps to dissolve stress, tension and headaches. Warm herbal oils are tenderly massaged into the skin and light touch is used to stimulate specific energy points (marma) in the face.
The therapeutic oil, combined with gentle manipulation of the marma (acupressure) points, helps to release energetic and emotional blockages, stimulate the lymph nodes (immunity) and increase blood flow whilst nourishing and hydrating the skin.
Nasya
In Ayurveda, the nostrils are considered an essential pathway for toxins to enter and exit the body. Nasya therapy involves introducing herbal oils or preparations into the nostrils. This process helps to cleanse the nasal passages, throat and sinuses of impurities, mucus, and toxins. Nasya is used to help address various health concerns related to the head, neck, brain, eyes, ears, nose, and throat.
Pinda Sweda
Pinda Sweda/Kizzi is a traditional Ayurvedic treatment combining oil massage and sweat therapy. The treatment involves using herbal poultices (cloth bags filled with a customised mixture of medicated herbs and oil) which are heated and used to massage the body. The poultices ensure that the medicinal herbs penetrate deep into the skin to detoxify the blood, boost immunity, and promote circulation. Pinda Sweda is commonly used to help relieve tension, pain and inflammation in the joints, muscles and tendons.
Footbath
A warm footbath is often administered before treatments to help relax clients and draw out impurities from the feet. The footbath contains Epsom salts and aromatherapy oils to nurture and detox the body.
