“The Seven Valleys” is a mystical and allegorical book authored by Baha’u’llah, the prophet-founder of the Bahai Faith.  This significant work was written in Persia around 1860 and is considered one of His most profound and poetic works, exploring the spiritual journey ad the stages of the soul’s ascent.

The title, “The Seven Valleys,” refers to the seven stages or, Valleys that a seeker progresses through on the path to spiritual enlightenment and union with the divine.  Each valley represents a different aspect of the journey encompassing various spiritual concepts and challenges encountered along the way.

Throughout the text Baha’u’llah employs allegorical language, drawing on rich symbolism and metaphors, often referencing Sufi terminology and mysticism.  He illustrates the stages of the soul’s journey through valleys such as search, love, knowledge, unity, contentment, wonderment, and finally true poverty and absolute nothingness.

Baha’u’llah uses vivid imagery and poetic prose to convey profound spiritual truths, guiding the reader through the inner dimensions of the soul’s quest for spiritual realisation.  “The Seven Valleys” emphasises the importance of detachment from material desires, the development of virtues, and the attainment of spiritual qualities necessary for the soul’s progression towards God.

This mystical and profound work serves as a guide for individuals seeking spiritual growth, encouraging them to traverse the inner landscapes of the heart and soul, ultimately leading to a deeper understanding of the divine and the purpose of life.
